Legal Associate
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal Associate with 1–2 years of post-call experience to join our dynamic legal team. The successful candidate will work primarily in the areas of personal injury and real estate law, providing effective legal representation and client-focused service. This is a permanent position with growth opportunities in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a caseload of personal injury matters, including motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall claims, and other tort-related cases.
Draft and review real estate documentation, including purchase/sale agreements, title transfers, mortgage documents, and closing documents.
Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings as required.
Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, affidavits, and legal opinions.
Provide sound legal advice and advocacy while maintaining excellent client relationships.
Collaborate with senior counsel and support staff to ensure efficient and timely resolution of files.
Maintain compliance with Law Society regulations and ethical standards.
Must be a licensed lawyer in good standing with the [Law Society of [Province]].
Completion of articling and 1–2 years of post-call experience in a law firm or legal setting.
Demonstrated experience or strong interest in personal injury and real estate law.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and file management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in legal software and MS Office Suite.
Assets:
Trial or litigation experience in personal injury cases.
Fluency in a second language.
Experience using real estate transaction platforms (e.g., Unity, Teraview, etc.).

Manager/ Senior Manager
The Role
We’re on the hunt for a full-time Manager to become a part of the HGA Family and add value to our incredible team. The ideal candidate will take on the position of trusted liaison between partners and clients in reviewing client files, providing technical expertise, and assume leadership roles on complex files. The Manager will report directly to their respective partners, however, as part of the Senior Accounting team, this individual will be provided the opportunity to mentor our junior and intermediate-level accountants.
Perfect for someone who understands the value of customer service, this individual will enjoy working alongside the partners to support our large range of clients and be equally as invested in who our clients are as people, as well as their business and the 'numbers'. A high level of accountability and initiative will be key to succeed in this role, as well as the ability to navigate and adapt to a fast-paced professional services environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Supervising the preparation of financial statements of business clients, reviewing the work of Staff Accountants, and completing complex portions of the file;
Maintaining high quality control by overseeing and reviewing Compilation and Review Engagements;
Reviewing Corporate, Personal and Trust income tax returns and other tax forms;
Reviewing, investigating and correcting discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries and reports;
Making recommendations based on analysis and status of reserves, assets and expenditures;
Performing technical research, developing and documenting tax planning recommendations for individuals and corporations;
Assisting with the execution of corporate reorganizations;
Overseeing the organization and prioritization of the work of Staff Accountants, including the management of engagement costs and billings;
Mentoring and supporting the professional development needs of Staff Accountants;
Managing a portfolio of clients, ensuring their needs are met and that relationships and accounts grow and develop; and
Contributing to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field;
- CA or CPA designation, with a minimum of 5 years public practice experience dealing with the accounting and taxation needs of private companies and their shareholders;
- Comprehensive experience in compilation and review preparation; and
- Experience leading and supervising staff.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Knowledge of relevant accounting frameworks and file documentation best practices;
- Extensive knowledge of - Accounting Standards for - Private Enterprise (ASPE);
- Proficient in Caseware and Profile;
- Strong business acumen; and
- Strong computer skills (MS Office).

Legal Assistant
The right candidate will be familiar with how personal injury claims are handled and processed. The responsibilities will include the following:
• Gathering client records from various sources
• Preparing and reviewing a number of litigation documents
• Organizing client files
• Written and verbal communication with clients, opposing counsels, insurance representative, etc.
• Organizing and preparing Affidavit of Records and Bills of Costs
• Requesting and reviewing medical, employment and general personal information
• Maintaining confidentiality of client files and records
• Responsible for time management and prioritization of tasks for various individuals
• Proficient at managing a demanding workload supporting a very busy practice
• Answering telephone calls
• Providing additional assistance to lawyers and other co-workers as required
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized Legal Assistant program
- 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in-house or at a law firm
- Previous experience in Personal Injury and Litigation
- Experience with Cosmolex, PCLAW, or CLIO is a strong asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong proof reading, grammar and editing skills
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to deadlines
- High level of professionalism in dealing with clients and other contacts
- Able to work independently ensuring ongoing management of files
- Ability to provide support as needed in other areas as required
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
